MISSION:

Snapshot Voyager is about my own personal photography journey. I am always looking to try something new, inquisitive as to how it works, and to the end results I might achieve.

True Black

Understanding how a camera’s metering system works is important.  Most meters are programmed to meter at the “18% grey” point for correct exposure.  Even with Nikon’s fancy colour matrix metering, it still wanted to expose this scene to that point.

As I was drastically running out of light in this dimly lit kitchen at a friend’s cottage, I needed a faster shutter speed (see second shot).  I also wanted black to be black, not grey, so I set the exposure compensation for “-2” (ie 2 stops under) which eliminated both problems.
